“The first part of this presentation was essentially a solo piano recital of tango-influenced music performed by the brilliant young visiting Argentinean pianist Marcela Fiorillo. Most of the pieces were performed in her own arrangements, and her very attractive playing pleasantly captured this atmosphere, matching an impressive technical assurance with a warm expressive tonal control of the keyboard.

Her familiarity with the styles and moods of the various works was very apparent, and such numbers as El Ultimo Cafe and the Suite of four Tangueras were special moments in a constantly interesting program. But the highlight of the first half was her transcription of A. Piazzolla Adios Nonino, an extended arrangement that was rhapsodic in form and mood, and used the keyboard with glittering effect.”
